Volunteer Coordinator (AmeriCorps*National)

Hours: Tue.-Sat. 7:30 am-4 pm, some evenings as needed

Project Goal: Perform and coordinate others in the performance of tasks directly related to volunteer services while upholding the standards of partnership, quality, safety, and team participation. Assist in the recruitment, training, scheduling, orientation, follow up and recognition of all volunteers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Process individual volunteer applications on an ongoing basis;
  • On a weekly basis, recruit and schedule an average of 20-25 construction volunteers, as well as volunteers for the warehouse, and other departments as needed;
  • Assist in the preparation and recognition of volunteer groups;
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of volunteer appreciation and donor recognition events;
  • Periodically greet sponsor and individual volunteers on weekday and Saturday builds;
  • Visit build sites and warehouse to check on volunteer processes and provide weekly updates on all volunteer activities, including construction;
  • Coordinate and implement outreach activities in the community by developing relationships with local organizations, businesses, churches, colleges, high schools and other groups.

Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required: Must have a clear desire to work with low-income communities, be friendly, flexible, able to speak in public and enthusiastic, and willing to advocate the mission of Habitat for Humanity. Basic knowledge of AmeriCorps*National program, regulations and benefits. Able to plan, organize and implement multiple tasks simultaneously, experience in public speaking, ability to work with minimal supervision, excellent verbal and writing skills, interpersonal skills, detail oriented, generally competent in Microsoft Office. Previous experience with volunteers is desirable, but not required. High School diploma or equivalent required, Associates or Bachelors Degree preferred.

Physical Requirements to Perform Duties: Minimal - able to life 25 lbs, most work will be completed in an office setting.

Construction Crew (AmeriCorps*National)

Come join Habitat Omaha for a year of AmeriCorps*National service as a Construction Crew member.

Hours: Tue.-Sat. 7 am-4 pm, some evenings as needed

Project Goal: Perform and coordinate others in the performance of tasks directly related to building Habitat Omaha homes, while upholding the standards of partnership, quality, safety, and team participation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the execution of all aspects of building a Habitat house from lot clearing to final inspections and punch list;
  • Relate to volunteers and homeowners as a mentor and trainer, patiently instructing and encouraging others in tasks and participation within the construction processes;
  • Follow HFH's method of construction using the provided Construction Manual and maintain Habitat equipment, as assigned;
  • Promote partnership among all participants in the Habitat program, giving special attention to the needs and concerns of homeowners; and enhancing communication between staff, volunteers, and homeowners;
  • Assist in planning for each service day to insure that all necessary resources -- material and human -- are available to complete the task list; performing tasks that are team priorities.

Physical Requirements to Perform Duties: Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding, maneuver over uneven ground, stand most or all of day, and lift/carry 50 lbs; work environment is usually outdoors with minimal office work.
