Congratulations! By your interest in our program, you have taken the first step to become a homeowner. The next step is to apply to Habitat for Humanity of Omaha during our application period. The application period in 2008 is from April 1st to May 15th. You may pick up an application from the Habitat office, 2204 Ames Avenue, Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.
The next step is to attend an informational meeting. You will need to attend ONE meeting for your application to be considered complete. Choose one of the following six times:
April 19, Saturday, 3:00 pm. Habitat Office, 2204 Ames Ave.
April 26, Saturday, 9:30 am. Habitat Office, 2204 Ames Ave.
April 30, Wednesday, 7:00 pm. Arabic language translation.
Habitat Office, 2204 Ames Ave.
May 5, Monday, 6:30 pm. Spanish language translation.
Juan Diego Center, 5211 South 31st Street
May 10, Saturday, 1:00 pm.
May 15, Thursday, 6:00 pm. Habitat Office, 2204 Ames Ave.
- APPLICATION PROCESS
1. Application is picked up at the Habitat for Humanity office at 2204 Ames Avenue on or after April 1st.
3. Application is completed and returned along with required attachments and documentation when applicant attends informational meeting. (required)
4. Application is processed and verified for proper attachments and documentation.
5. Application is evaluated for income.
6. Credit report is ordered and evaluated.
7. Home visits are scheduled.
8. Applicants are notified of denial or acceptance by the end of July.
- SELECTION
1. Newly selected families attend Acceptance Celebration.
2. Sweat Equity Workshop is held, and the Sweat Equity Agreement is reviewed.
3. Applicant begins sweat equity. 20 hours must be completed at work site within 30 days of Sweat Equity Workshop to continue in the program
4. Educational workshops begin, including an individual conference with Consumer Credit Counseling Services and a series of Homebuyer Workshops with Family Housing Advisory Services.
- ADDRESS ASSIGNMENT
1. As the building schedule is established and addresses become available, lot selection agreements can be signed with families who have at least 75 Sweat Equity hours completed.
2. The first half of the $500 down payment is due at the time of address assignment.
3. Sweat Equity continues, so that all 350 hours are done at the time of the house completion.
- PURCHASE and MOVE-IN
30 days prior to house completion, preparations for closing will begin.
- Full down payment is due
- Credit report is updated and evaluated
- Income verification is updated
- Closing documents and deeds are prepared and reviewed
- Homeowner's Insurance is obtained by the buyer
- OPPD and MUD utility accounts are transferred
