Construction Supervisor
Habitat for Humanity of Omaha is seeking a leader who desires to make a difference in the community. Habitat Omaha is looking for an experienced Construction Supervisor to be a hands-on leader for our house builds. A qualified individual has a wide range of construction skills, a strong aptitude for leading volunteers and excellent organizational skills. The primary purpose of this position is to project manage all Habitat Omaha builds, supervise and lead the AmeriCorps construction service members and volunteers, and to provide quality assurance on sites. The construction supervisor's responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of Habitat Omaha builds, ensuring construction project milestones are met on time, fostering relationships with the City of Omaha inspectors, presenting a positive image of Habitat by creating positive volunteer experiences on construction sites and ensuring that Habitat Omaha homes are built cost-effectively while maintaining quality.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
- Implement annual master build schedule as set forth by the Construction Manager. Oversee project management of each site to ensure the construction staff, coalitions, and volunteers meet all critical project milestones in a timely manner.
- Partner with coalition leaders to assess and meet their material and supply needs to maintain build schedule. Create strong partnerships with coalition leaders to facilitate long term volunteer commitments.
- Facilitate effective communication and team building through daily/weekly scheduling discussions with Volunteer Manager, Construction Project Manager, and the Warehouse Coordinator.
- Build strong relationships with local vendors and sub-contractors to increase material donation opportunities, negotiate favorable material pricing, and decrease building costs.
- Develop and implement systems to increase efficiency of warehouse operations, home builds, inventory control, and of the construction staff.
- Oversee the procurement of building permits, utility hookups, and city inspections to ensure that all Habitat builds are up to code.
- Responsible for leadership functions as they pertain to the AmeriCorps construction crew and our volunteer crews.
- Assist in final walkthroughs of homes with Family Services Department prior to home dedication and family occupancy ensuring quality control of homes. Ensure punchlist is completed before closing.
- Assist in safety training and enforcement of safety practices on the build sites.
EXPERIENCE, ABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Residential Construction experience required. Prefer experience with framing, dry-walling, roofing, siding, and finish work. Ability to read and interpret house plans.
- Outstanding interpersonal communication skills with varied audiences. Must be able to lead volunteer groups.
- Must have strong organizational skills and be detail oriented.
- Goal-oriented, success driven, professional, outgoing and self-starting.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment.
- Ability to adapt to a fluid construction environment yet still meet target project milestones.
- Must have strong construction project management skills.
- Experience with multiple site project management, experience supervising employees, and strong customer service skills.
- Strong sense of urgency a must.
